    Credit for Prior Learning Request

    Thank you for your interest in earning credit for prior learning. Prior learning is college-level knowledge gained outside a traditional classroom—through work experience, licenses or certificates, military training, volunteer service, or other non-academic opportunities. We recognize that valuable learning happens in many ways, and some experiences may be eligible for transfer credit.

    If you’re seeking credit through standardized exams such as AP, IB, or CLEP, you do not need to complete this form. Instead, please have your official score reports sent directly to the Office of Admission and Enrollment for evaluation.

    Please complete this form only if you have been accepted to, or are currently enrolled at, SUNY Oneonta. Submitting this form serves as your official request for a prior learning assessment. Each assessment requires a separate request, and a fee of $160 applies per evaluation.

    Please provide a detailed written statement explaining the learning experience and timeline for the prior learning and a description of the knowledge, skills and/or competencies achieved that align with course learning outcomes at the institution (accessible from the University Catalog). In some cases you may also be asked to participated in an oral interview. along with the following: 
    Please note: The number of credits requested is not guaranteed. Total amount of credits awarded is up to faculty discretion.
